2021: A Year in Review

2021 at The Village at South County Commons was a year filled with excitement as we welcomed many new businesses and restaurants, danced and sang our way through our annual Summer Concert Series, hosted our first Outdoor Movie Night, cut the ribbon on a brand new bike path and celebrated the holiday season with a visit from Santa during our annual Breakfast with Santa event! Joining our popular collection of restaurants, we welcomed three new eateries to the property, Neaoplis Italian Emporium, Audrey’s Coffee House and Lounge and Taj Indian Restaurant & Bar. 2021 also brought us the reopening of the newly named 8-screen movie theater, All South County Luxury Cinemas along with many other businesses in the retail, financial and medical fields.

We were thrilled to welcome the local community along with vacationers and students to the Commons to celebrate an unforgettable year of fun. Neapolis Italian Emporium

Neapolis, opened by Pasquale Illiano, owner of Pasquale’s Pizzeria, opened it’s doors in 2020/21 and has been thriving ever since. Neapolis is an authentic Italian retail experience that brings a bit of Naples, Italy to your very own kitchen with its fresh made pastas, prepared Italian foods, a variety of imported charcuterie and cheese, along with homemade gelato! Catering services are another treat offered by Neapolis, providing custom charcuterie platters, hot trays, salads, desserts and more.

Audrey’s Coffee House & Lounge

Audrey’s Coffee House & Lounge is day-to-night cafe is lead by a Bachelor Nation power couple, Jared Haibon and Ashely Iaconetti. The pair have created a cozy space with subtle Bachelor-esque touches such as Monday night Bachelor show screenings and menu items such as the “Most Dramatic Mocha Ever” and the “Here for the Wrong Reasons Mocha Latte”. Audrey’s is a day-to-night respite with coffee and pastries available in the morning, sandwiches at lunchtime and martinis with charcuterie boards and small plates in the evening. They have truly created a community space where people can study, watch the news, conduct business meetings and socialize with friends and family over shared plates and cocktails by the fireplace. Jared and Ashley have so much more in store for Audrey’s including adding a charitable giveback component, live music and more. We are excited for you to follow along on their journey.

Taj Indian Restaurant & Bar

Taj Indian Restaurant & Bar offers a creative blend of contemporary and authentic Indian cuisine. Opened in the summer of 2021, the family team at Taj prides itself on serving the best Indian food in South County, using authentic, fresh ingredients and spices. Experience Taj’s vibrant bar and relaxed atmosphere while being presented modern delicacies based on nostalgic dishes honoring age-old tradition and technique. All South County Luxury Cinemas

2021 in the Commons also saw the reopening of its newly named 8-screen movie theater, All South County Luxury Cinemas. Owners Harold Blank and Bill Dougherty are seasoned professionals in the cinema business, as they also own and recently renovated the Mystic 3 Cinemas in Mystic, CT.  The duo has similar renovation plans in South County to include heated recliner seating, hot food menu items and even a cocktail list! The cinema is a star addition to the Commons providing a space for friends and family to gather  and relax, while having an array of popular and diverse films to choose from. See you at the movies!

Frills of Galilee

Opening in the fall of 2021, Frills of Galilee is host to unique items, most curated from local artists including painters, photographers, jewelry designers, woodworkers and more. This self-proclaimed “boho/hippie” shop offers beautiful tapestries, apparel, organic handmade soaps, home decor, stationery items and jewelry. A visit to Frills of Galilee is the perfect place to show yourself some love or pick up something special for someone else.
