As the sun sets on another summer in South County, we have just one thing to say:
THANK YOU!
To our neighbors, residents, visitors, families, businesses, musicians and everyone who spent part of their summer with us at South County Commons — you made this season one to remember.
From Thursday nights dancing on the Commons to movies on the big screen, family activities, live entertainment, community events and plenty of great food and drinks along the way, there was always something happening around the Village this summer.
And the best part? We’re nowhere near finished.
Seven Concerts, Eight Thursdays & One Very Lucky Summer
Anyone who has followed our Summer Concert Series over the years knows there is one thing we can’t control: Rhode Island weather.
Somehow, Mother Nature was (mostly) on our side this year!
We successfully hosted seven of our eight scheduled Thursday night concerts, losing only one evening to rain — a record we’re pretty proud of after some much wetter summers.
Week after week, the Commons filled with lawn chairs, blankets, families, friends and plenty of dancing as local bands took the stage for our free outdoor concert series. From our July kickoff through our final August performance with The Complaints, seeing so many familiar — and new — faces each Thursday was one of the highlights of our summer.
Our restaurants and businesses joined in on the fun, many extending their hours and welcoming concertgoers for dinner, drinks, takeout and treats before, during and after the shows. Our annual concert series remains one of our favorite ways to bring the community together, and judging by this summer’s crowds, we’re not alone.
Family Fun Night Was One for the Books
One of the biggest nights of the summer came when we teamed up with our friends at Audrey’s Coffee House & Lounge for Family Fun Night.
The Commons was packed with families enjoying live music from the Jesse Liam Band, face painting, balloon twisting, games, raffles and prizes. Rhode Island Charm joined us with its mobile charm bar, and even Cardi’s Furniture’s larger-than-life Ron and Pete stopped by for photos.
And then there was the dancing.
Lots and lots of dancing.
It was exactly what we hope these events can be: neighbors running into neighbors, kids playing together, families grabbing dinner from our restaurants and people of all ages simply enjoying a beautiful summer evening together.
From the Big Screen to the Bloodmobile
The fun wasn’t limited to the outdoor stage.
Our June Free Movie Night at All South County Luxury Cinemas was a sellout, bringing families together for a complimentary showing of Troop Beverly Hills.
We also partnered with the Rhode Island Blood Center and All South County Cinemas for a community blood drive. Ten successful whole-blood donations from that drive had the potential to help as many as 30 patients in need of lifesaving transfusions.
Those are the kinds of numbers we’re especially proud to celebrate.
Our Businesses Kept the Calendar Full, Too
Of course, South County Commons events are only part of the story.
Our businesses created their own packed calendars all summer long.
Audrey’s Coffee House & Lounge hosted everything from trivia and karaoke to book signings, live entertainment and special community events, in addition to partnering with us for Family Fun Night. Their popular Friday Trivia Nights continue into the fall.
Over at Tower Hill Brewing, the calendar has included live music, trivia, comedy, Dueling Pianos, Drag Me to Music Bingo and plenty more. And they’re not slowing down either — recurring events such as Country Line Dancing and Bingo are already filling the fall calendar.
All South County Luxury Cinemas has also continued to give moviegoers reasons to visit beyond the latest releases, with special events and entertainment throughout the year.
Add in new businesses opening their doors, restaurants welcoming summer crowds and nearly 70 businesses that call South County Commons home, and it was a busy few months throughout the entire Village.
Summer May Be Ending. Our Calendar Isn’t.
If you think things quiet down around here after Labor Day, think again.
There’s already plenty to look forward to this fall and holiday season.
More community blood drives are on the way, along with our Dog Adoption Event with Audrey’s and Mona’s House Animal Rescue on September 13, recurring trivia at Audrey’s, Bingo and Country Line Dancing at Tower Hill Brewing, and plenty more being added to the calendar.
We’ll also be heading back to the movies for another FREE Movie Night in October, followed by one of our favorite traditions of the entire year:
🎅 Breakfast with Santa returns December 5!
And between those events? Expect more tenant happenings, special events, giveaways, new business news and probably a few surprises along the way.
Stay Tuned, South County
South County Commons has always been much more than a place to shop, eat or run an errand. It’s a place to meet up with friends, bring the family, discover something new and, increasingly, find something fun happening when you get here.
That’s what made this summer so special.
Thank you to every business that participated, every performer who took our stage, every organization that partnered with us and every single person who showed up.
Whether you came to all seven concerts or stopped by for just one event, we’re grateful you chose to spend some of your summer with us.
And while we’re saying goodbye to summer, we’re definitely not saying goodbye to the fun.
Keep an eye on the South County Commons Events Calendar for everything happening throughout the Village, and follow us on social media for new events, giveaways, tenant news and announcements.
